Discover diving the unexploited water of Musandam Oman

by Sheesabeach on December 11, 2014

Musandam Oman is one and perhaps the only place in the  Peninsula that is pristine when it comes to water and sea life. I have explored many places in ASIA like Philippines , Thailand, Vietnam including the Red Sea but Musandam is something different.

The dive sites are mostly just inside the haven or just along with the cliff and headlands which is safe from current and boat to stay.

From Marco critters to pelagic school of fishes and whale shark during the month of October till December, these makes your trip truly amazing.

Dive operators here are so unique because they have something for you to have fun in between dives or you can bring your family as well (none divers)to experience...

Diveboard Feature updates: explore, plugin and navigation

by Ksso on February 13, 2012

This monday brings in a complete redesign of the "explore" page. The previous version did not reach its goal: letting users browse the variety of scuba spots and see what fellow scuba divers have experienced diving there. It's not perfect yet but definitely brings us closer to that goal! The new explore should be fairly simple to manipulate with a large map showcasing the dive spots and a left pane listing what's on the screen: dive spots, divers who've dived there and dives logged in that area. When clicking on an item in the left pane, an info pane will open giving you a summarized version of the element you clicked. If you wish to see more you may navigate away and see a logged dive...

Diveboard mobile on Android

by Ksso on January 26, 2012

I'm super happy to announce the release of the Diveboard mobile app on the Android Market. This initial release lets you access your logbook and will cache the data on your android phone so you can share your scuba love even while offline. In order to save bandwidth only dives you have accessed once will be cached, and of course should you update them a simple pull will refresh them.Next in line is the iPhone app (awaiting Apple's approval)

Diveboard feature updates: dive numbers, nicer print to pdf

by Ksso on January 20, 2012

You've been requesting that for some time (especially nitroxxed who also dared discuss my personal mad designing skills :-) ). So we added today two feature requests to Diveboard :

Dive numbering : You can now number your dives. This sounded obvious but we felt it wasn't necessary. Apparently the Diveboarders made it clear otherwise. You can now number your dives from either the dive manager or each single dive. To make the process easy we added an "auto-magic" button to automatically guess your dive numbers. When you change a dive number in the dive manager all subsequent dives will be renumbered automatically. This won't check for duplicates though, so I advise you always do this on the...

Diveboard Feature updates: picture tags and titles, trip folders, SAC calculations...

by Ksso on October 18, 2011

A bunch of new updates as we speed forward the Beta release of Diveboard :

Picture tags and titles: On top of the drag-and-drop organization Interface letting you shuffle your pictures and select your featured picture, you now get a list interface letting you add on each pictures a title/comment and tag fishes from the fish database. When you tag a fish in a picture it will be automagically added to the list of species you spotted during the dive so if you're like me and take pictures of everything you see during a dive, that will probably be the place to start with for marking down the species you encountered. ...

Diveboard feature updates: Tanks, visibility and plugin

by Ksso on October 11, 2011

We start the week with a set of user request being delivered

Tank data :  You will now find in the "profile" section a "Tank & Gas" section letting you add details about what and how much you've been breathing during your dive. You can add the tank type, volume, start and end pressure and gas type (and even custom types for our tec diver friends). Naturally tanks will show up nicely formatted on the Profile section of your dive logbook.

Water visibility : Nothing really fancy but that basic info in now available on the main pane of the dive editor.

Plugin updates: Bugfixes on the Mares M2, better support for OSX Lion, Linux 64 bits (debian, tgz,  rpm package thanks to rubiojr !). If you...

Diveboard feature update : print to PDF

by Ksso on September 16, 2011

This week's new updated is an unexpected one : the ability to print your dives. I say unexpected since of course the feature was on the roadmap, but definitely not expected to be delivered before October/November. Yet since in a single week we had so many requests over that feature we just had to deliver it so there it is ! In your "Bulk Manager" (the Bulk upload button), you'll now find a "Print" button in the manager pane. Hitting it will generate a PDF of the selected dives. If  you print that pdf while making sure you keep the exact dimensions (no zoom or fit to page) you get the exact size of a standard PADI logbook page ! Cut and punch it and you can file it ! We tried to avoid...

Self-Sufficient Diver & Solo Diving

by Ksso on August 22, 2011

Self-sufficient diving or "Solo Diving"  may sound like an odd concept for all scuba divers out there. Since the first training day, whatever the organization that's training you, you get brainwashed with the "Never Dive Alone" mantra. Nevertheless since the late 90s the idea of solo diving is starting to catch up acknowledging that  a properly trained and prepare diver willing to solo dive could actually do it. In 2001, a senior PADI official acknowledged for the first time that solo diving could be carried out in safety by suitably experienced divers. The first training agency to offer a Solo Diving certification was Scuba Diving International (SDI) in 1999. In 2011 the SCUBA training...

Diveboard holidays : back to the Ocean !

by Ksso on July 08, 2011

Finally after 6 months of intense coding, and months of frustration seeing the cool dives our users are uploading from Brazil, Italy, Egypt and many other cool places, we finally get to add new dives to share on Diveboard (that is if we find some network)! My diving gear is checked and ready to fly to Thailand in Koh Samui for more underwater pictures, and Pascal will be heading to southern France to pass his FFESSM/N2 grade (somewhere between AOW and Rescue Diver).Blogging will be slower and updates are being kept secret - ready to roll when we're back!
